Development Partners

In accordance with section 44 of the 1997 constitution of the Gambia, the IEC’s activities are primarily funded by Government of the Republic of the Gambia. Over the years, the IEC has successfully sought and acquired funding for its activities.

In 2006, a Joint Donor Basket Fund was instituted under the stewardship of the UNDP. Through this noble venture, development partners such as UNDP, DFID, and the European Union have facilitated the acquisition of funds in support of Electoral Activities in the Gambia. The American Government through the Embassy of the United States of America in the Gambia, the Commonwealth Secretariat and the British Government through the British High Commission in the Gambia have all participated in enhancing the capacity of the IEC.

Our development partners have over the years contributed immensely to the democratization process. The Commission is indeed very much indebted to its development partners and counts on their continued participation and support in the areas of democracy and good governance.

The Commission solicits support from organizations/institutions in strengthening the gains registered.
