PRESS RELEASE ON THE BIOMETRIC REGISTRATION OF VOTERS- JANUARY 2011

The Independent Electoral Commission wishes to debunk with alacrity the erroneous notion being peddled around that it is presently carrying out a bona fide voter registration exercise.

The truth is that the IEC is currently considering various options for the use of biometric based solutions in the forthcoming registration of voters exercise commencing in January 2011.

That is the reason why two companies, namely, Code Incorporated and Zetes Pass were invited to The Gambia to conduct mock registration exercises from January 14^th to January 16^th 2010 which will enable both the stakeholders and the Commission to make an informed judgement in the way forward in the electoral process.

All things being equal, registration of voters will commence in January 2011. Recruitment and Training will be conducted in the last quarter of 2010.
